POSH Picks: Spring Bouquet

Birds are chirping and that means warmer weather! One spring trend I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around is floral print. I think anyone who remembers a trend the first time around has a difficult time picturing themselves wearing it again. Is it just me or do y’all remember the light-wash jeans with the checkerboard affect floral print? One leg was printed with light pastel florals on the front, the other leg had it on the back? Anyway, to avoid deja vu, I’m thinking about keeping any pastel  floral nods to just one solid shade and any multi-prints to bright bold colors. Here are some florals I can really see myself picking!

Merci Beaucoup

This week’s Merci is short and simple. All my life I’ve kept my tastes in fashion, accessories, beauty, events, home decor…all aspects of life, pretty low-key. Usually I prefer a much more modern palette. There’s nothing wrong with that except I’d often find myself admiring a gal in line at the grocery store carrying a bright green purse or visit someone’s home and see they’d painted an accent wall red. I envied their bravery but never had the courage to really incorporate a ton of color into my own life. I was always afraid I’d get sick of looking at a red wall or wouldn’t have anything to wear with a green purse.

I’m happy to announce POSHees that I’ve turned over a new leaf. Lately, I’ve been feeling uber creative. No idea where it’s coming from but I’ve longed for color and interest more and more and for the first time, was able to envision it apart of my own life, not just someone else’s. HALLELUJAH! It started with this pair of shoes. A pair of Hinge T-Strap Sandals in Tangerine. Isn’t that a great color for a shoe?! TANGERINE. Anyway, needless to say, my heart skipped a beat when I saw them. I kept doing laps around the shoe department and inevitably, I’d wind up right back in front of them.

{Life-Changing Shoes}

“So, this is it huh? You and me? We’re really going to do this? Like for real? No keeping you a secret? No pretending you’re not my type?”

I bought them. My very first pair of boldly and brightly colored high heels and I will ROCK THEM LIKE NOBODY’S BUSINESS. I remember when I was younger, my aunt would always wear these bright red Reebok tennis shoes. They were awesome and she rocked them like nobody’s business. I loved the story about how she ended up with them. She had taken the kids to a second-hand store to shop. She said they were the most ridiculous things but she just plucked them off the shelf, tried them on and that was it. Sort of like “So there!” If I remember right, her oldest said something like, “Really, you’re going to get those?” She strutted out of the store with her little ones trailing behind her hanging their heads. I’m pretty sure she wore them until they fell apart. (Did I remember that right Auntie C?!)

I think these babies just might change my life. So for that, color, and taking chances, I am thankful.

Spring 2012: Top Trends

Woooooo DOGGY! Spring is lookin’ mighty fine if I do say so myself. Just putting together this post got me so inspired…I was ready to start spending! Unfortunately, at least for us here in the Pacific Northwest, we’ll have to wait a bit longer to pull out our lace and hotpants (that’s right I said hotpants!) Are you ready for my breakdown of some of spring’s hottest trends?! Away we GOOOOOOO!

1. SWEET SORBET by 3.1 Phillip Lim | Spring is back to being all about pastels…those tried and true baby blues and lovely lavenders that you’ve all come to know and love. They’re feeling fresh this spring when layered together.

2. PERFECT PEPLUM by Jason Wu | Boys beware. This trend will have every girl looking like Jessica Rabbit. It cleverly conceals a fluffier tummy while nipping in at your true waist. Go va va voom in a top or dress.

3. SAFARI CHIC by Burberry Prorsum | What I love about this trend is it’s so not just about animal prints anymore. While that’s still a key to any spring season, this year it’s more exciting with African notes…stripes, bold reds against brown, graphic tribal prints and more.

4. TANGERINE DREAM by Derek Lam | What’s not to love love love about this color? It can instantly give you a tan, looks super hot with leopard print and the chic factor can’t be beat when paired with gold jewelry.

5. LADYLIKE LACE by Oscar de la Renta|  So beautiful and ultra fem. Give it a whirl in a skirt or jacket. For an edgy feel pair it with a leather tank.

6. NEON LIGHTS by Nanette Lepore | The idea here is not to dress head to toe in and 80′s tribute but rather added punches of color with hot pink polish or a lime bangle.

7. PAJAMA PARTY by Luca Luca| While I love my jim jams as much as the next girl, I’m having a hard time wrapping my mind around this one but I’m still going to give some silky bottoms a go with a crisp blazer and tons o’ jewelry.

8. NOT SO POOR SPORT by Givenchy | Another tricky one, think of incorporating elements like mesh, buckles, and stripes into your everyday look rather than dressing like you’re headed to football practice.

9. ROARING 20′s | No prohibition here. Fringe, sequins and drop waists were all the rage. Update the look with a dramatic smokey eye and ultra hip heels.

10. HOT PANTS IN THE CITY by Jill Stuart | Us shorties love this trend because it gives us legs for miles. If you’re tone enough, I say go for it! At least while on vaca in Mexico or Palm Springs. I’ll be keeping it chic with a mono-tone blush version and a white clutch.
