Styled: Bebe Warner’s (Literal) Crib

Hello POSHees! Well…I am in the throes of mommyhood and loving every minute (even the 3 am ones because Warner J.’s face is quite precious in the moonlight.)

Anyway, as I said here, we were done with the nursery the week before the fire but I hadn’t quite gotten around to taking pictures so you’re just now seeing a glimpse of my little one’s digs. We didn’t opt to paint again because after all the hard work this summer, being tossed out of our house and the baby due any minute, we found ourselves quite taxed. And frankly, sometimes there are just more important things (a lesson I am getting kicked in the booty with repeatedly now that I’m a mommy.)

The inspiration was to blend a little bit of me (chic) with a little bit of the Mr. (outdoorsy). I originally found the idea on Pinterest then just ran with it. The result was a sweet, modern nursery with all the proper country trimmings. For little Warner J., it felt absolutely perfect.

{Color Palette}

I’ve never been one for super frilly decor or pastels for that matter. With a baby boy on the way, it gave me a chance to really think outside the blue box. The orange and grey felt playful yet sophisticated.

{Warner’s Digs}

It can be tricky when you’ve purchased everything for another space to find a new spot for it in a different room but overall, I was really pleased with how it turned out.

{Tiny Hands}

A little touch I added afterwards, I hung “small” (you know my kid was 9 lb 13 oz right?)  hand and foot prints using these kits.

{Baby’s First Bike}

I know it’ll be awhile before he can ride like the wind but I couldn’t resist this adorable tricycle in just the right colors.

{A Few Personal Touches}

I stocked his bookshelf with lots of love and lots of fun little surprises.

{Something to Grow On}

This little treat came from one of my baby showers thrown by my besties Ash and Kristen. I think it’s a great reminder to always be growing and challenging yourself.

{A Little Love Diddy}

Ken actually sang me this song on my 30th birthday. I included it in the nursery because it says a little about raising your kids right and it has such a special place in my heart. My boy is sure to have his daddy’s love for music.

{Bookworm}

One of my favorite memories as a child is going with my mom to the library and letting me pick out stacks and stacks of books. Warner and I have already started to read together. I can’t wait to enjoy all the old classics with him in my lap.

{Baa}

I snagged this little guy from Homegoods. The minute I saw him, I knew I needed to take him home. Not only does he match perfectly but he’s a good reminder of the Shepherd who cares for each and every one of his flock.

{Lighting the Way}

This used to belong to Tim’s father. Tim was Ken’s brother-in-law and passed away from cancer in 2008. He and Ken were very close. This is a small token of the power of friendship.

{Words to Live By}

I came across this little box at Homegoods as well…I knew it would be a perfect place in which to tuck away some of Ken and I’s favorite verses. We read them to our little man from time to time in hopes he’ll one day write them on his heart.

{‘After’ Family Photo}

The frame for this picture we got from our dear friends, Mike and Lori. They sent it in a care package after the fire and we were so touched, I had to include it in the nursery. The picture as you can see is from our recent family photo shoot.

{Hoot Hoot}

These little fellas are just another beautiful addition. They are gifts from my sister (the little owl) and my cousin and his wife (the big owl). I think it’s just amazing that they both got Warner little owls and they just happen to match the nursery perfectly. Bliss.

{Pillow Talk}

I picked up this on one of those beautiful and whimsical days in the summer. I was walking around downtown with frozen yogurt taking a break from work and happened upon it in a little boutique in Kirkland. Again, I saw it and knew it would be perfect instantly. Don’t you love finds like that?

{Ch-ch-ch-changes}

God bless IKEA. I got this beauty there, picked up some handles and chalk paint at Home Depot and voila! We keep a pad on the top for changing and all this diaper necessities right there in the handy tin.

{The Hunted}

While KP was holding out for a real deer head, I stuck to my guns and opted for this Restoration Hardware version covered in French dictionary pages.

{Rock-a-Bye Baby}

{Through the Barn Doors}

{Furry Friends}

Ah, one of my favorite parts of the nursery! The headboard and crib. KP fashioned the headboard with the help of one Mr. Crozier and the crib I ordered here. The crib skirt I found on Etsy.

{Cozy Carpet}

For one more touch of the outdoors, I brought in a sheepskin rug. It is the softest thing I’ve ever felt and I’m pretty sure the pups think I bought it just for them because they’ve taken a liking to it as well.

{‘Before’ Family Photo}

And here is where it all began. A snapshot of our family of three-to-be.

Styled: Shower Chic

Saturday I was blessed to be thrown the most beautiful baby shower this side of Texas. (And maybe even the other side too.) Two of my besties conspired across state lines to host an elegant and oh so precious soiree. The entire theme of the bash was a surprise and literally took my breath away. I can’t wait to share photos with you soon. For now, a look at what I wore!

Dressing for a party when your 28 weeks pregnant is a bit tricky. I chose a simple white eyelet style dress and paired it with some of my favorite shoes. To add a touch of contrast, I went with OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark. I finished the look with some gold jewelry (and later, thanks to all my beautiful friends, some tears of joy!) It was a day not to be forgotten.

Styled: Colorblocked Stripes

Mother’s Day was simply perfect.  The sun was shining on Seattle and it was technically my very first Mother’s Day. All my loved ones and friends sent me well wishes and the Mr. took me to brunch at Cafe Champagne (someone’s been reading my blog!) and gave me a beautiful card. I marked the occasion by wearing something as bright and happy on the outside as I felt on the inside.

I donned a great little satin dress by matty m. and paired it with these shoes which I’ve been dying to wear. Since the rest of my outfit was so bold, I kept it simple with very little jewelry and a nude handbag.

P.S Now that my secret is out, I can’t tell you how nice it is not to have to suck in my stomach anymore for these ‘Styled’ pics. ;)

Styled: Gift for Bebe

Good morning friends!! Last week I shared with you how I kicked off the perfect Parisian send-off into mommyhood. This week I’m sharing what I gifted the mama and bebe on the big day. I hate to spill my now secret go-to shower (birthday, house-warming, wedding, anytime) gift but it isn’t very POSH to keep such a beautiful creation to oneself.

A short time ago, while over at Rockstar Diaries, I stumbled upon an “It’s a Boy” pillow made for Naomi by her mom. Pillows by Poppy have been a longtime favorite of mine but I never knew she did custom orders. The second I saw that, I pounced! I emailed Poppy with pictures of Ashley’s nursery, house, and kitty cats as well as a few more special details. A few emails and a few weeks later I received the most beautiful pillow in the mail to gift to my best friend to commemorate the birth of her sweet baby girl. It nearly brought me to tears as I marveled at how she was able to seamlessly weave all the little details together while putting her own unique spin on it. It has to be said that Poppy is 99% responsible for this week’s Styled post! I loved it and couldn’t wait to give it to Ashley. I’m not a whizz on the sewing machine myself so to share someone else’s heartfelt talent was the next best thing and it was certainly given with lots of love.

I also threw in a book I’ve heard rave reviews about! Bringing up Bebe!

Styled: Répondez S’il Vous Plait

Well…the empty cardboard ribbon spools have been smooshed and recycled, the mason jar glasses washed and stored, the linens laundered and pressed…the baby shower is officially over and oh what a baby shower it is was! I’ll be sharing more about the party soon with pics to boot but first I wanted to give you a little sneak peek at all the fun.

With what must all good baby showers begin? Why, a POSH invite to summon the mama-to-be’s nearest and dearest of course! Inspired by many things…some time the mama spent overseas studying abroad, an adorable top spotted in a consignment shop, and most recently a late night viewing of the movie Bridesmaids by two besties who nearly died laughing, I decided a Parisian brunch was the perfect way to celebrate Baby Girl Thompson.  And so it began…

Styled: Blue Ballerina

Sorry about the delay in Monday’s “Styled” post! I seemed to be having some technical difficulties with my camera but I’ll take that over a wardrobe malfunction any day. Read on for my latest outfit.

I loved this Cynthia Rowley dress the moment I tried it on. It is a beautiful cobalt color and believe it or not, despite the structure is very comfortable and a tad stretchy. One of my favorite features is the gold exposed zipper in the back. I paired it with a great teal necklace for another pop of color and kept my other accessories muted with nude Steve Madden peep-toe pumps and neutral Gucci handbag.

Styled: Easter Eggs

We don’t take egg-dying lightly in the Powell house. At least I don’t. The Mr. usually drops a few eggs in some color and calls it a day while I’m at the table working for hours with glue and color combos and glitter complete with a knot in my hunched over back. That said, I wanted to compile a few tips for you POSHees on how to get the most out of your eggstravaganzia.

1) Use this method to boil your eggs.

2) I find PAAS to be the best brand hands down for your basic coloring. I also tried a tie-dye and sponging kit that worked really well.

3) I like to pick up all sorts of fun things…jewels, feathers, paint, glitter…the possibilities are endless so have fun with it!

4) I always like to use clear, narrow cups. This helps you see the color (and if there is an egg in there already!) best. Plus, with the narrower cups, you don’t have to stir to make sure all sides of the egg get colored as they are fully submersed.

5) Egg dippers don’t work. They’re awkward and ill-fitting and my eggs always fall off. Plus you have to sit there and hold it if you want your stripes to be just right (which they never are) and who has time for that when there are 23 other eggs to be dyed? This year I tried what I thought to be a genius trick and ended up working quite well.  Sockets. (I just had to text my husband to ask him what they were called.) They worked great. Just pour out the amount of egg dye into another cup temporarily according to the stripe size you’re hoping to achieve, drop in a socket and place the egg on top. You might want to move it to another space to keep it from getting bumped. Easy!

Styled: Colorblocking

I had the privilege of attending a fabulously fun event on Saturday organized by none other than Ms. Heija Nuun, mommy blogger extraordinaire. It was a chit chat with celebrity make-up artist Ross Burton (yes, the one who works with Oprah and other celebs!) followed by make-up appointments at the Bobbi Brown counter. More about all I learned and some of the great products I picked up tomorrow but today…what I wore!

I knew I wanted something fun and fresh but put together. As I said, I’m all about color lately so I went with a T. Babaton indigo silk top and coral pants. My suede Aldo platforms, leather chain pocketbook and Wilson leather coat polished off the look.

Styled: A Splash of Leopard

As I mentioned last weekend, my friends and I got to throw an animal themed baby shower for our friend Angie. Obvi I had to add some festivity to my get-up as well. I went with a simple black ruffled dress and cardi and threw on a leopard print belt. Since it’s still sort of chilly out, I begrudgingly put tights on under my boots too. Some gold jewelry added the final touch!

It was really windy out when we took the pics as you can tell by my hair so you’re getting more blooper shots than anything else.
