Seeing Red

For some reason I have a bee in my bonnet that is buzzing, “Get some red shorts right this minute!”  Okay, okay, I will! As usual, J. Crew to the rescue. You’d catch me wearing them to run errands or to grab lunch with girlfriends. Here is how I’d style those babies right up!

A POSH Vanity…The Before!

Well POSH friends, another week is upon us. I hope you all had a beautiful and restful weekend filled with gratitude for all those that have sacrificed their lives for us in service.  I sure have missed you but my time was well spent catching up on some projects. Once in a while you just have to grab that kite tail and GO!  It occurred to me that I haven’t even shared with you how the big 3-0 went. Well, there really aren’t words. I was spoiled rotten and rather than take pictures and document every little detail (like I often do!) I just relished it and tried to live in the moment. Boy I am so glad I did. It was a birthday not to be soon (or ever) forgotten.

In other news, for better or for worse, I am now married to this vanity. As I mentioned, I was in the market for one and I bought it off Craigslist on a whim which is so unlike me but like I said, soon to be mommy-hood has me doing some very out of character things. In my heart I feel like we’re meant for each other but she needs some serious work. The problem is, I can’t do most of it. As I type this, the Mr. is on the front porch stripping her current three coats of different color paint off using a highly toxic stripper. (HA! That is a really funny mental picture.) After this, he has to sand it and then of course paint it with less so but still toxic paint. I’m planning on helping with the new knobs at least?! We have BIG plans for this little lady and like a certain Vivan Ward/Julia Roberts who also has a past of stripping her coats off, I expect her to turn out uber chic. I can’t wait to share the final product with you in the coming weeks!

Ain’t he cute?! He’s stripping paint and listening to (I’m guessing) This American Life. That’s right, he’s handy and super smart. Hands off ladies, he’s taken.

Chateau Powell: Extreme Home Makeover

Welcome! Won’t you come in? I’m about to shake things up around here in a big way and I’d love for you to see what I’m working on.

Lately the Mr. and I have been deep in thought about our next move (or lack thereof). We’ve wondered as The Clash did, “Should I stay or should I go?”

We desperately need more space, particularly with a wee one on the way but at the same time we’re so desperately in love with where we are now. We spent a lot of time going back and forth and after lots of prayer and a recent fall through with a place we had been considering, I’m happy (and a bit nervous) to report that we are……..STAYING!

It feels good to have put that to bed but now I’ve gotta get crackin’ on all that needs to be done around here and it sounds like I’m right one time. Here’s what Wikipedia has to say about nesting: “The instinct often occurs around the fifth month of pregnancy, but can occur as late as the eighth, or not at all. It may be strongest just before the onset of labor. It is commonly characterized by a strong urge to clean and organize one’s home and is one reason why couples who are expecting a baby often reorganize, arrange, and clean the house and surroundings.”

Oddly enough (or perhaps very telling) I couldn’t find anything under nesting + type A + OCD. I think I know why. Because no one has seen a woman on that warpath and lived to tell about it or define it in an online dictionary. I AM ON A MISSION.

BEDROOM

1. Clean out and organize closet to make room for KP so we can free up current guest room closet for baby. And no, hell hasn’t frozen over.

2. Hang headboard I made almost a year ago. It’stimedon’tchathink?

3. Purchase new bedding. We are LONG overdue.

4. Purchase nightstands for bedside storage. We’ve used these chairs since we got married.

5. Move items from under the bed downstairs upstairs since we’re getting rid of the guest bed in the nursery changeover.

6. Purchase a bigger dresser to make room for more of KP’s clothes.

7. Replace current t.v with a flatscreen. This may not happen for awhile. It doesn’t really serve a purpose other than I’d like to put a beautiful glass tray on top of the dresser to display some of my jewelry and perfume bottles.

8. Either purchase a much smaller kennel and put it elsewhere or find a new solution for confining the pups. This is total wasted space. I haven’t told the pups that they’re being evicted yet.

9. Purchase a mirror and vanity table or move the mirror and desk from downstairs and turn it into a vanity set-up where I’ll house all my personal care products and that’ll go here instead. This will de-clutter the master bathroom of products and people. Its hard to share a mirror while getting ready with my big strapping husband plus it just feels uber glam.

KITCHEN

1. Clean out and organize all cabinets and drawers donating anything we never use.

2. Toss expired food or donate non-perishables that I know we’ll never use. Does anyone know what to do with Polenta?

3. Scrub down fridge and counters. There is cake batter stuck in between the tiles. I’ll let you do the math. How often I bake= how long it’s been there.

4. Get the repairman to fix the light in our oven that is stuck on. (This reminds me of when I was little and how I’d flip the switch on and sit down in front of it with popcorn and pretend I was at the movies. Did you ever do that? No? Must just be me then.)

5. Run the self-clean cycle on the oven.

LIVING ROOM

1. Purchase more lighting and a bookshelf or end table for corner near fireplace.

2. Wash couch cushions.It’stimeforthistoodon’tchathink?

3. Beat rug.

4.Purchase a desk with more storage space for work and personal files or purchase a matching filing cabinet for current desk.

PATIO

1. Clean out and organize this nightmare.

NURSERY

1. Clean out and organize storage closet.

2. Move KP’s closet up to my mine where his clothes will be welcomed with open arms. This closet will become baby’s.

3. Sell guest room furniture (bed, desk, dresser, headboard). Sigh. This will be the toughest part after all the work I put into the room but I know it’ll go to a good home.

4. Move stuff currently stored under guest bed upstairs for storage under our bed.

5. DECORATE FOR BEBE P!!!!!! Nope, not gonna spill the plan for that yet. ;)

*Honey, I apologize in advance for the destruction I’m about to cause.

Here’s to the Next 30 Years

Well sweet friends. Today is my 30th birthday. I know right? I said the same thing. (What the…already?!)

As I took my morning walk today, and really over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been contemplating this moment in my life. I was hoping I’d have some really fascinating and insights or thought-provoking observations or at least a dramatic breakdown that would provide some entertainment for you but the truth of it is, my life is pretty damn great right now. I have air in my lungs, a roof over my head and love in my life. It’s just that simple. I have much to be grateful for and little I regret. Sure there is the eensiest bit of trepidation about the big 3-0 but not because I haven’t made the last 29 years really count for something, it’s really just because the “What’s next?” is always scary. It should be or it’s not fun.

There is so much I want to say….about who I feel like I’ve become…where I think I’m headed…the most precious and important things to me in my life. But words, for one reason or another, are escaping me. Instead, I’m thanking God for all my blessings and for giving me life both here and now and in the ever after. I’m also taking great comfort in the fact that despite where life takes me, some things will never change.

I’m a girl who believes in good hygiene.

I see great value in life-long learning.

I love to go dancing with my girlfriends.

I’m a huge fan of faux fur.

I love a good cup of coffee.

Animals hold a very special place in my heart. (P.S. Isn’t my mom a knockout?!)

I love fishing and camping as long as I can catch some rays…

…but I’m always careful to wear a hat or sunscreen.

I’m obsessed with make-up.

I fancy time spent poolside.

Nothing makes me more excited than a good dinner party.

I believe you should rock the outfit, the outfit shouldn’t rock you.

I much prefer drinking out of plastic…

…unless of course we’re celebrating with a cocktail.

I love to travel.

Laughing is one of my favorite ways to spend my time.

I’m not ashamed to admit I love holidays and getting presents. (But I love giving them just as much!)

I had to kiss alot of frogs…

…to find my prince but man was he worth the wait.

My family and friends are my EVERYTHING. So, of course I cannot forget on this 16th day of May…to also wish the happiest of birthdays also to my baby sister whom I affectionately call Boo. Your sissy loves you.

Here’s to the next 30–may they be as fabulous as the last. XX

TOSH Picks: Amazonian Clay Foundation by Tarte

{The Fab Mrs. Tosh}

Hello POSH Friends!

My name is Kristen Toshner, the Bestie of Lacie (her POSHness) Powell. I have always had an affinity  for beauty products of all kinds; hair, make up, skincare, nails. I have at least three of each of any product type out there (and don’t tell Mr. Tosh but I have established a secret beauty hiding place.) On top of that, I have a regime utilizing all products in my beauty artillery (I leave no lotion bottle un-pumped and never shy from returning a product that doesn’t agree with me). Here I will tell you what I am currently using and loving; a plethora of products I think you should own (and gift). I will give you first hand  advice of what you can’t live without in your beauty drawer and the best way to use it.

TOSH PICK: Amazonian Clay Foundation by Tarte

Forget Sunny + Cher, this is the best dynamic duo! Being a tinted moisturizer girl, I have to admit the word foundation somewhat scares me. Having been a fan of Tarte’s amazing Amazonian Clay items, I kept an open mind and jumped in feet first into trying their Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Foundation. Boy am I happy I did. Not only is Tarte formulated without a number of items such as Parabens , the product is amazing. Before paying too much glory to the foundation alone, I will say it would be nothing without its counter part the Airbrush Finish Bamboo Foundation Brush. The two items together pack an amazing performance. The formula adjusted to different sections of my skin. Oilier T-Zone, dryer area under the chin and it is so easily buildable I didn’t feel scared applying more in certain areas. I tried a section of applying without the brush and the brush definitely amplifies the magic of the foundation. Bottom line, if you are looking to veer off your regular tinted moisturizing path, this is a perfect route to go. Just make sure you grab the foundation AND the brush. I promise you will thank me later!

Styled: Colorblocked Stripes

Mother’s Day was simply perfect.  The sun was shining on Seattle and it was technically my very first Mother’s Day. All my loved ones and friends sent me well wishes and the Mr. took me to brunch at Cafe Champagne (someone’s been reading my blog!) and gave me a beautiful card. I marked the occasion by wearing something as bright and happy on the outside as I felt on the inside.

I donned a great little satin dress by matty m. and paired it with these shoes which I’ve been dying to wear. Since the rest of my outfit was so bold, I kept it simple with very little jewelry and a nude handbag.

P.S Now that my secret is out, I can’t tell you how nice it is not to have to suck in my stomach anymore for these ‘Styled’ pics. ;)

Crafting Community In Pictures

Whew! What a whirlwind weekend we had in Palm Springs celebrating Crafting Community and as with some of the best times in life, it felt like it was over before I knew it. It was such an honor to work with Kimmel Kids and Kid Concierge. I was so incredibly touched seeing all the families come together to craft and connect. What a precious, precious weekend. Check out some of my favorite pics below and TONS more on my Facebook page.
