Merci Beaucoup: POSH Pregnant

Oh sweet POSHees. How hard this secret has been to keep from you! So many times I’ve wanted to post an instagram shot of my growing belly peeking over the top of my Mac or spill to you about my obsession with tropical-flavored Starburst but this mama-to-be has indeed been keeping her lips zipped. The Mr. and I are in fact expecting a wee bebe boy September 18, 2012 and we are thrilled.  Now that I can shout my secret from the rooftops, I hardly know where to begin…this experience has been anything but easy to put into words.

A few things I’ll share:

First, I would not have been able to do this without God’s biggest and best gift in the world to me, my husband. (And I’m not talking about for the obvious reason.) I have never felt more in love with KP than I do right at this very moment. My eyes well up at even the thought of his compassion when I couldn’t stomach even a bite of food, his patience when I went from happy to hysterical in under 60 seconds,  his wisdom when I was overcome with fears of dying in the birthing room (which haven’t gone away btw) and most recently, his elation when he found out we were expecting a handsome son. I look into his eyes and feel something that simply cannot be defined. We are forever changed by this experience and I am so, so, so grateful I get to do this with my best friend and the love of my life. Not everyone is so lucky and I am broken in two with humility at the thought of that.

I don’t plan on turning this into another “mommy blog,” not that there is anything wrong with those, there are just so many fabulous ones out there–you don’t need another from me. I do want to share my thoughts on becoming a mommy from time to time (and of course if you ever want to check in or get my thoughts/opinion on something feel free to ask) but no more than I usually do. For now, you can count on me to still share about my many other POSH passions, just expect a bit about being POSH pregnant from time to time too…after all, as with every other aspect of my life, I plan on bringing a little style into this whole shebangabang.

Pregnancy is altogether one of the most and least glamourous things in the world. People may give up their seats and lift heavy things for you but sometimes at the end of the day your ta-ta’s hurt and it’s difficult not to talk without burping. I am happy to report though that becoming a mommy-to-be has made me finally relax a little. (I know, right? You can go back and read that again if you want…) And that may be the most glamourous part of all. It’s funny because with all other things in life, I normally have to know it all, do it all, be it all but for some reason–this is different. I’m trusting the process and trying to embrace the opportunities God is using to teach me more about grace and handing over the reigns. I have no choice but to let go and be kinder to myself, after all, it’s not just about me any more. Believe it or not, I even feel more creative than I’ve ever felt before too…don’t get me started on the nursery.

And finally, you can give me a giant belly, but you can’t take me outta my heels…XX

Styled: Gift for Bebe

Good morning friends!! Last week I shared with you how I kicked off the perfect Parisian send-off into mommyhood. This week I’m sharing what I gifted the mama and bebe on the big day. I hate to spill my now secret go-to shower (birthday, house-warming, wedding, anytime) gift but it isn’t very POSH to keep such a beautiful creation to oneself.

A short time ago, while over at Rockstar Diaries, I stumbled upon an “It’s a Boy” pillow made for Naomi by her mom. Pillows by Poppy have been a longtime favorite of mine but I never knew she did custom orders. The second I saw that, I pounced! I emailed Poppy with pictures of Ashley’s nursery, house, and kitty cats as well as a few more special details. A few emails and a few weeks later I received the most beautiful pillow in the mail to gift to my best friend to commemorate the birth of her sweet baby girl. It nearly brought me to tears as I marveled at how she was able to seamlessly weave all the little details together while putting her own unique spin on it. It has to be said that Poppy is 99% responsible for this week’s Styled post! I loved it and couldn’t wait to give it to Ashley. I’m not a whizz on the sewing machine myself so to share someone else’s heartfelt talent was the next best thing and it was certainly given with lots of love.

LA LA Land

You (and KP for that matter) know I mean business when I pull out the rolling rack. As I’ve said, it’s a great tool to help you prep for a trip. I’ve been pulling clothes out all week for LA and Palm Springs and hanging them up “for consideration”. It makes my packing SO much easier. For a glimpse inside the mind of a maniac type A packer, check out my LA must-haves. Palm Springs ones to come next week!

1. Tinted Moisturizer- I’ll be jetting to and fro so it’ll be key for my make up to be a one-stop shop situation.

2. Sunnies-I hear there is loads of sunshine in Cali so I’m coming prepared. Now…where did I put my sunglasses?…I haven’t used them since last July…

3. Maxi’s Galore-I’m all about chic with a dash of comfort. Chic is black and comfort is a Splendid racerback maxi.

4. iPad-For reading, watching movies and putering the day away.

5. Straw Fedora-See #2.

6. Fabulous Tote/Purse-To hold item #1, #2, #4, #7, #8.

7. Clif Bar-I’ll need some protein to get me through busy days of meetings and sitting in traffic.

8. Red Lips-I’m all about the ruby lipstick these days. Nothing feels more glam and LA is all about being glam.

9. Converse Kicks-Again with chic + comfort. ‘Nuf said.

10. GPS- I don’t know my way around Kirkland, let alone LA so you bet your booty I’m bringing my GPS for the rental car.

POSH Picks: Gaga for Green

In honor of Earth Day this weekend, I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite green and eco-savvy picks. They’re simple ways to be a bit more earth-friendly without completely overhauling your life. In addition to these fab products, remember you can ALWAYS be recycling, turning off the water and lights when not in use, carpooling and bringing your own totes shopping. Lose It!

Today POSHees I share with you one of my all time fav tools. If you know me at all, you know I’m addicted to my iPhone–likely to a fault but I revel in sharing hot apps that make life easier. Today I’m sharing about a little app called “Lose It.” This puppy is amazing! It tracks your fitness goals, exercise, calories and other nutritional info and even allows you to share info between friends to stay motivated. However, one of my FAVORITE all time features just added this year is the barcode scanner. That’s right–scan the barcode off the package of food you’re eating, for example, Laughing Cow cheese, and the food’s nutritional information instantly pops up on your screen. From there you can adjust the serving size and voila! Not only that but their search feature lists thousands of every day foods including information for all your favorite restaurants so eating out in a cinch. Check it out my friends, you won’t be disappointed!

Styled: Répondez S’il Vous Plait

Well…the empty cardboard ribbon spools have been smooshed and recycled, the mason jar glasses washed and stored, the linens laundered and pressed…the baby shower is officially over and oh what a baby shower it is was! I’ll be sharing more about the party soon with pics to boot but first I wanted to give you a little sneak peek at all the fun.

With what must all good baby showers begin? Why, a POSH invite to summon the mama-to-be’s nearest and dearest of course! Inspired by many things…some time the mama spent overseas studying abroad, an adorable top spotted in a consignment shop, and most recently a late night viewing of the movie Bridesmaids by two besties who nearly died laughing, I decided a Parisian brunch was the perfect way to celebrate Baby Girl Thompson.  And so it began…
