This is the last year I’m making a big deal out of my birthday. Not only because at this point it seems childish but also because I think anything past 29 is too scary to face, let alone celebrate. For all those who want to roll their eyes at me because I say turning 30 will be scary, I ask you to stop for a moment and remember what it was like for YOU to turn 30. Don’t judge, I know you felt the same.
That being said, this year I went out with a bang. I got to celebrate with some of the people I love most and was showered with all kids of love, laughter, great tunes to get down to and AH-mazing food and gifts. Boy am I a lucky girl.
I want to share with you a few of the highlights because the love is just too much to keep to myself. Forgive the pictures, they’re from my phone. My next big purchase is a nice camera. I also tried to do cool blog formatting but screwed it up so went with centered pics. Baby steps, baby steps.
On Friday, KP and I celebrated with a decadent dinner at Anthony’s. I heart food. I heart food A LOT. The Mr. had been paying VERY close attention and knew I had been dying to try that restaurant. There was smiley service, piping hot bread fresh out of the oven, a chilled bottle of “O” wine, steak, crab, lobster and potatoes oh my. Need I say more? We had a view of the water, the sun was setting…magnifique.

Then on Saturday, I finally got to see my Sparkle Bestie K who was in town for my birthday. Please don’t ask why I call her Sparkle. It’s a secret. My love for her is long, wide, deep and high. I miss her oh so much. We got our nails polished then parted ways to beautify for our night out later. If you know me at all, you know I have a special place in my heart for nail polishes in a myriad of colors. As if on cue…did you know what my Mumsy (mom) and Boo (sister) and special friend (and perhaps biggest supporter) M got me? You guessed it (and a gift card to Julep to boot!)

When the Mr. and I arrived to pick Sparkle K up for dinner, I met Esmeralda (Esme for short) or my gift from her and one of my other Besties, J. Seriously girls? Died and gone to heaven. Perfect for dressing up and providing inspiration and accessory storage year round.

A short while later, we arrived at Pesos for drinks and apps and to meet up with my other Bestie Lloyd (Ashley) and her hubs Mike. Again, if I tell you why I call her Lloyd, I’ll have to kill you. It’s a secret only shared between soul sisters. You could’ve knocked me down with a feather (again) because she got me this. Yes, I am OBSESSED with grey. My whole house is decorated in grey and it will play a key part in my logo colors because I am so in love with it.

Then it was onto dinner at Toulouse Petit. Go there. Now. Seriously. Stop reading this blog and go eat there immediately. Order the risotto and tell them Lacie sent you. Soon Jared (aka Faboosh) met us and joined in on the fun. We laughed until our sides bursts. I thought they were going to kick us out. Afterwards we danced our tooshies off at The Frontier Room.

On Sunday, I indulged again, this time with J and K at Trellis, an amazing restaurant in the lobby of The Heathman Hotel in Kirkland. Eggs Benny. Winning. Duh. We girl chatted for two hours. We get together and dish about our lives—personal, professional and all the things in between. We are a cheerleading squad of three. J brought me these BEAUTIFUL flowers. She hasn’t visited our new place yet but she magically picked out the same exact colors of flowers that always reside on my dining table. I went home and crawled into bed with the Mr. for a two-hour nap. Sunday night was a quiet night at home with Pagliacci Pizza (my fav) and movies while snuggling on the couch with the warm bodies in my house.

Day four of birthdaypalooza and my true birthday. I went and got a massage—again, the way to my heart—that KP had scheduled for me. Afterwards, I did some treasure hunting at my local thrift store…I found some great loot. I found an amazing jade (real!) bracelet, a killer chunky elephant ring and a gold bracelet that reminds me of an old cigarette case my grandma used to have. It looked just like this and I used to run my fingers over it and marvel at how smooth and glamorous it was.

Did I mention that in addition to food, fashion, nail polish and grey, I’m a sucker for cool jewelry too? Gee, can you guess what else my Mumsy and Boo got me? I waited to open my gift from them on my official birthday. This is just one of the FABulous pieces… a beaded rope necklace. They don’t know this yet but I’ve had my eye on one. I miss my family so much. I will think of them every time I wear it.

After treasure hunting, I swung by Bartells and picked up a couple new shadows and liners to add to my stash.

My last real indulgence. I have always said if I could have a perfect fast food meal it would be a burger from Burger King, fries from McDonald’s and a frosty from Wendy’s. That’s right, I did it.

Oh, and on the way home, I stopped and gave a guy with kind eyes who was down on his luck the last $50 of my birthday money.
When I think of the beautiful people I got to spend my birthday with and the beautiful gifts I was given for my birthday, rather than the phrase “To know me is to love me” coming to mind, I think instead, “To love me is to know me.” I am wide-eyed when I think about how each perfectly perfect person I got to spend my birthday with fits into my life and how perfectly perfect each birthday gift was that I got. I feel so truly loved and truly known sometimes it hurts. It’s a feeling that wells up in my throat and all I can do to keep it from consuming me is close my eyes, breathe and thank God for each and every one of my blessings. Here’s to another PERF year.
